I think that the most important in starting your own business is motivation. People writes here about passion. But in my opinion you don’t need to like your work. It works for me the fact that I know I have cash from what I am doing and I can spend it to realize my real passions like treveling to different countries.

I think you were right with your fist statement – “they love what they do and they can make enough to support themselves doing it.” I can tell you (from experience) that it is extremely difficult to get up in the morning when you are doing something you are not crazy about.

This is great. I always enjoy hearing from folks who have “been there”. There’s a lot of motivation for sticking with things and not wanting everything all at once.
