Twitter Fest Friday – Dec 05, 2008

It seems like every time we turn around we are hit with headlines proclaiming doom, gloom, and the near failure of civilization!  There is no doubt the United States has some troubles financially, and really no debating the hole we’ve gotten ourselves into with the housing market, and bailouts, but are things really that bad for you personally as big media would have us believe? I wanted to get to the bottom of it, so today’s Twitter Fest Friday question was pretty simple, and if the answers I had gotten back were “the sky is falling, duck and run!!!” then I would begin to believe the hype. However, as you’ll see in the replies, the outlook for many of us is anything but dour, and on the whole we are overwhelming optimistic about the next 12 months.  Optimism doesn’t surprise me a bit, it’s what many of our businesses were built on, and will continue to be the driving factor going forward.

    Very optimistic! My business is booming and I have no credit card debt, and I try to NEVER listen to the news on TV… They are all gloom and doom and what’s more I sleep better. :)

    @Chris
    Listening to the news can be hazardous to your wealth, you’ll start believing everything they tell you!

    Matt-

    I love these weekly posts. It’s really cool to see what my fellow entrepreneurs are up to and what they think about important topics.

    Keep up the good work!

    Ha – looks like i’m the only one who expects a lot more economic pain in the coming 12 months. The one bright spot is oil at $41.00/barrel. That could boost consumption. And for an economy that’s 2/3rds consumption, that’s a big deal.

    Whether you’re smiling or crying, the global economy may not change much. So…why not face it with a smile? Life is easier that way.

    Heard that economy may bounce back after Sept 09 but there won’t be sudden changes.

    Just curious – anyone here actually uses barter instead of cash to get by? Cos I am!

    @kelly
    Entrepreneurs and business owners are the kind of people who always see opportunity, so these answers certainly didn’t surprise me! You’re right, why not have a smile on your face?
