Seven Things Your Brand Is Not – And One That It Is

Your BrandWhat Your Brand Is Not

1. Your brand is not your logo
2. Your brand is not your personal identity
3. Your brand is not what you sell
4. Your brand is not what you say it is
5. Your brand is not your fancy offices
6. Your brand is not your company culture
7. Your brand is not your employees

What Your Brand Is

Your brand is the emotional and psychological relationships you have with your customers.  Your brand is what your vendors think of you, what your employees see of you, and what your customers say about you - Essentially your brand is what they say it is, not what you say it is.

To quote a speaker at an event I attended earlier this week:

“Marketing is not something you do, it’s who you are.”

Ker-POW! yet anolther one out of the park.

We see so much about branding yet no one defines what it is they are talking about specifically. This is the finest clarification I’ve seen on the subject.

  4. This gets right to the point. In my weekly manager meeting this was a topic of discussion.the challenge for us is how we sell new products and incorporate it into our brand?
If customers don’t thinks of you as the place to go for a particular product, changing the logo is not going to cut it. How do you create that the emotional attachment from the product to the brand?

Good stuff! This is a great reminder about the psychology of selling… It’s always good to keep in mind what is in your customers’ minds about your company overall. Most decisions, it would seem, are not based on arguments as much as emotions – thanks for the reminder!
