How to Get Your Staff on Board with GPS Tracking

GPS TechnologyInstalling GPS tracking devices in fleet vehicles is one of the smartest things any business can invest in to protect their investment. The only problem is that when you install the GPS devices many employees will get bent out of shape. They will take it as a personal affront to think that they need to be watched over as they do their job. The simple fact is that many drivers DO need to be watched over despite their protests. However, since you need for them to go along with your decision, there are many other ways you can present benefits to them.

Your employees will not only get the benefit of being able to know where they are going at all times. You will also be able to give them the ability to communicate with the office at any given time. Additionally, they will be able to have the hours that they work tracked without having to go through extra steps. The fact that the GPS tracking device will help to keep the vehicle better maintained is something else which should be pointed out to the driver. The important thing is that they see the many ways the action is taking place to help them in doing their job.

Preset Routes

It can be very frustrating when trying to find a delivery location or picking up a fare from an address. By having the ability to find the destination through the GPS system, it eliminates all guesswork. Your employee will know exactly where to turn so that they will have no possibility of getting lost. If a turn should be missed, the system will automatically recalculate the route to get them back on track. Best of all, the routes can be preset to avoid specific areas.

Streamlined Communication

Direct communication with the office is not always easy to accomplish. There can be different numbers or lines which need to be gone through in order to speak with someone in the office when there is a problem or a concern. Even then, drivers are reluctant to do so because it will mean having to use their cell phones to make the call. The GPS system can also be used as a communication device. By using the two-way communication feature, the device can be a direct link to the office.

Hassle Free Timesheets

Any time the vehicle is in operation, the driver is on the clock. In the past tracking the hours in the truck has meant having to log in using a sheet of paper. Keeping up with that piece of paper can be a hassle. If anything ever happened to the paper, it caused problems on both ends. By investing in fleet tracking, it is possible to allow your drivers to log in and for the hours they are driving in the truck to be automatically tracked for them. By using the system to track hours, there can be no disputing the hours they have worked.

Well, maybe the GPS might be helpful in many cases, but in some countries there still can be mistakes in locating destinations and plotting routes.

  4. Interesting article. Off topic, but location services will impact us all heavily over the next few years. You will be able to track your kids whereabouts exactly, so when they say they are on the way home, you will know if it’s true!
