3 Challenges Faced By Work-From-Home Entrepreneurs and How To Overcome Them
For those who wake up early every morning and commute to work, fulfill their work duties, and return to their humble abode the thought of working from home can present an appealing picture. But the lure of working from home, although attractive from the outside looking in, can present a greater challenge than following the conventional work routine.
It is often more challenging to be a work from home entrepreneur because the entire career path is misunderstood and the obstacles that are faced are unexpected.
In this article I will discuss 3 challenges that you will face as a work from home entrepreneur and I will offer tips on how to overcome them:
The Transitional Challenge
Making the transition from full-time corporate employee or the conventional work environment to the home environment can present a tough obstacle to overcome. When we are working in a full-time job we inevitably condition our minds and bodies to follow a certain routine. Any change to that daily routine can negatively affect our productivity and ability to prioritize. The comfort of the home environment can also add to this challenge.
It is imperative for you to know exactly want you want to achieve when you begin working from home. And you should record your goals and set a specific daily schedule that outlines how you intend utilizing your time. If you skip this step your daily work will not be focused and your output will be minimal.
Maintaining A Balance
Working from home means your work life and home life is effectively intertwined. This is a dangerous position to be in because you will either neglect your work or your family needs. The ability to balance the two becomes a tangible hurdle and if you do not balance your time effectively you will create conflict with your family or you will neglect your work responsibilities.
It is important for you to set-up a designated work area in your home and to treat that space as a real office. It is also imperative that you establish a work time like you would if you were working in a conventional environment. It will take extreme levels of discipline for you to separate the two aspects of work and home, and for you to do this successfully you will need to identify what your priorities are in life. Thereafter you can balance your time and focus on your life’s priorities.
Misunderstandings Are Inevitable
The peculiar position of working from home means your immediate family and friends might not understand your new job. Your parents might think you lost your last job and even your spouse might secretly believe you are chasing a pipe dream. Before you begin working from home you will need to discuss your new position and explain to your immediate family what you are trying to achieve. By doing this you will clear the clouds of confusion and you will bring clarity to your loved ones regarding your goals and work commitments. In this way you will receive the unhindered support from your loved ones.
As you can see, working from home presents a host of diverse challenges that you will not read about online. By revealing to you the obstacles that do exist I aim to instil the facts that will help you make an informed decision if you chose to work from home.

Its a hard life working from home.. Wake up when you want to. Put the kettle on.. Ponder around a little bit make another brew, Check e-mails, Respond to e-mails, Take a few orders. Enough to have a decent lifestyle. Happy Days
Would never look back.. Its all about finding that niche and how to make money at it.
Hi Lakshmi,
Working at home really places you at a peculiar position specially in front of your family and friends, it is hard to make them understand that you are actually working. Also the other bad part is that we cannot get our balance right between work and personal life when we work at home, I think it is important and necessary to maintain a routine and create a home-office environment instead of a homely environment. Never the less, working at home rocks.

Really great for those who wants to work from home.I’m a Seo free lancer and working from home last 4 years. Its really satisfying to me.
No tension of boss and I work according my way.Nice post really..
I’ve done both; I used to work from home for 7 years and now I’m working a 8-5 so my situation is actually reversed. #1 Issue for me when working from home was focusing; even though you’re in front of the pc 8 hours a day doesn’t mean you are working if you spend a lot of times surfing, posting on message boards etc. It’s also important to keep a schedule so you don’t end up sleeping all day and working all night like a vampire.
I feel working from home as a security engineer is fine if you can manage your time well. It is also better if you have the house to yourself in order to work in quiet. I find that people often distract when you are not alone and they do not share the same ethic as you when trying to work in a home environment.
Things turn out best for the people who make the best out of the way things turn out.
